Wise Women

Webpage & Monitoring Form

This project was for the Glasgow-based charity Wise Women. The project aimed to digitize the charity’s paper-based monitoring form. This form collects statistics and personal stories from women participating in personal safety courses, with the goal of sharing these experiences to encourage others and raise awareness about issues like abuse and harassment. The challenge was to create a solution that maintained user privacy while being accessible and easy to use. Given the sensitivity of the subject matter, it was crucial to design an approach that felt safe, secure, and discreet for all users.

About

About

This was a 6 week long group project in collaboration with 2 other designers. My role within the group was mainly prototyping and layout design, but all 3 of us collaborated throughout the project.

While the Wise Women team initially mentioned an app in their brief- we quickly recognised potential safety concerns for women in precarious situations, and opted against developing a mobile app. Instead, designing a discreet microsite integrated into the existing Wise Women website, allowing for anonymous reporting and access to shared stories. To accommodate the charity's limited resources, we also provided an interim solution using a Google Form, ensuring immediate applicability.

Process

Brief Analysis & Project Breakdown: Conducted client research & analysed the brief to better understand our client and their needs. We met with our client to further discuss their brief and learn more about what they do. We then brainstormed ideas on how to tackle the project.

Research & Surveys: We then conducted surveys around our University campus asking women about their safety and experiences. This helped us to gain insights of how women viewed their safety.

Ideation & Wireframing: Based on our research and the brief- we decided to tackle the project in 2 stages. Stage 1: Stats & Stories- this would be the main page of the microsite, detailing the statistics and real life stories of women in Glasgow. Stage 2: Monitoring form- this would be the form that women would be asked to fill out in order for Wise Women to hear womens stories or to refer them to the correct helpline based on their experiences.

Visual Design & Style Guide: We developed a cohesive visual style, including color schemes, typography, and iconography, ensuring consistency throughout. We were careful when designing the imagery as it is a sensitive topic and had to approach it as such.

Prototyping & Final Designs: We then combined our wireframing and our visual style to create our final prototype.

Client Presentation: We then put together a presentation for our client. As they are a charity with limited resources we also created a google form version of the monitoring form so that Wise Women could implement it immediately.
